Ernesto Villanueva was born in Havana, Cuba in 1970. He left his first career as an engineer to explore his love of
structures, shapes, forms and colors as an artist. Inspired by his urban Havana environment and the existentialist writings of the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges, Villanueva explores themes and creates art
that is timeless and universal. The artist has major gallery affiliations in Havana and Europe. His many solo shows include Zurich, Switzerland; San Francisco, USA; Le Mans, France; Lerida, Spain. Since
1996 he has participated in numerous group shows in Cuba, Latin America, Europe and the U.S. In addition to his large-scale paintings, sculptures and installations, Villanueva is also an accomplished
printmaker.
