Juan Moreira was born in Havana, Cuba in 1938. He is an accomplished painter, printmaker, illustrator and master of the medium of
drawing. A youthful encounter with the work of Wilfredo Lam led to a deep and intense appreciation for what he terms the ‘mysteries of art’. After studying Commercial Art, Moreira went on to study Fine Art at the Academia
de Bellas Artes San Alejandro in Havana, Cuba, graduating in 1963. He also studied printmaking at the Taller Experimental de Gráfica in Havana. His professional affiliations include being a member of the Unión
Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC), and the Asociación Internacional de Artes Plásticos (AIAP). The artist has had a number of one man and group shows in his country and internationally since 1962.
They include exhibitions in Bulgaria, Russia, Czechoslovakia, Jamaica, Columbia, Denmark, Mexico, Italy, Canada and the U.S. His work is in public and museum collections which include the Latin American Gallery in Krakow,
Poland; the Museo de las Américas, Managua, Nicaragua; the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Havana, Cuba; the Narodowe Museum in Poland; the National Gallery of Jamaica, Kingston, Jamaica; the Royal Ontario Museum
in Canada and the Schloss Museum in Gotha, Germany.
