Kcho was born in Nueva Gerona on the Isla de la Juventud in Cuba in 1970. Since graduating from the Academia de Artes Plásticas San Alejandro in Havana in 1990, Kcho
has produced an impressive ouvre. Known internationally for his large-scale, site-specific installations, Kcho is also an excellent draftsman, creating paintings, drawings and prints. Migration is a major theme in
his work and boats, oars, docks, and water are recurrent symbols. Kcho has had countless exhibitions of his work. Among his solo exhibitions are the Reina Sofia National Museum, Madrid, Spain; Museum of
Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, USA; National Center of Contemporary Art, Montreal, Canada. His work is also in many important international public collections. Among the many honors and awards that the artist has
received are the UNESCO Prize for the Promotion of the Arts and a Ludwig Foundation Scholarship.
