Jorelus Joseph

Jorelus Joseph was born in Leogane, Haiti in 1939. His father was a farmer and his mother was a hairdresser. After primary school, he left the countryside for Petionville to learn to become a pastry chef. He took a second job as a packer at the Centre d’Art where he was exposed to art. He did his first painting when he was 43. His source of inspiration is Voodoo, a religion that he practices.
He was awarded a gold medal at the 3rd Bienal of Caribbean and Central American Artists in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
