Michael Parchment   

Michael Parchment was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1957. A self-taught artist, who by his own claim, was ’called’ to paint, Parchment has been doing so for over twenty five years. The artist’s work is informed by his deep religiosity and his study of the Bible, and many of paintings are his representation of biblical stories. Over the years his work has evolved from simple pastoral narratives to a more complex style. In the early 1990’s he began creating relief by applying wooden cutout pieces to the hardborad prior to painting these highly imaginative works.

Parchment has exhibited widely in Jamaica and his work was recently included in the National Gallery of Jamaica’s “Intuitives III” exhibition.
